The cargo catamaran Noord-Nederland of Rederij Doeksen B.V. was equipped with a Sandfirden Riverline generator set RLA621D and four Scania Stage V 13-liter main engines. With these, the vessel meets the latest environmental standards for inland shipping.
The job was completed within seven weeks with the cooperation of other parties such as HR Groep (formerly HR piping) of Sumar, Piet Brouwer Elektrotechniek of Urk and the technical and nautical departments of Rederij Doeksen.
The newly installed Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system converts nitrogen oxide (NOx) into water vapor and nitrogen (without oxides, making it harmless). Specifically, this means a reduction of 95% nitrogen oxide and 97-98% particulate matter compared to the old engines. With the new Scania Stage V engines from Sandfirden on the ms Noord-Nederland a nice step forward is made towards a zero emission ferry service.
For the realization of this project, approximately €304,000 was granted by the government from the Inland Vessel Sustainability Subsidy Scheme. This amounted to approximately 50% of the total investment.
